I know this place called Magazine Cafe, they have a great selection of Pattern Making books which have royalty free CD's. They also have a great selection of textile, knitting, sewing, crocheting.... magazines. You can see there whole selection at http://stores.magazinecafeny.com

My opinion -
Thanotic poop. Art will eat itself. I think the mouths and the poop shapes really are about this work chewing up and spitting itself and other currently hot visual tropes back out. It is very slick and smooth and polished - eye candy, and about as nourishing to the soul as a box of Nerds is to the body. Frankly, sex and death are boring in this context.

From the "biography section of the gallery website":

Sam Gibbons' paintings are fascinating renderings of cartoons perversely entwined in spasms of death and candy-colored imitations of sex. Gibbons' work is a painterly convergence of figuration and abstraction; resembling a Rorschach test, one side of the canvas mirrors the other, lending symmetry and precision to fluid and spontaneous bursts of color and form. Employing imagery that was originally intended to entertain and pacify, Gibbons' paintings are at war within themselves. The typical role of the cartoon is subverted; these benchmarks of inexperience are engaged in violent and sexual acts. Acting as allegories for the loss of innocence, Sam Gibbons' paintings exist as a complex and beautiful mimicry of the human condition.

Since when are cartoons "benchmarks of inexperience"? they have been violent and made by adults, for adults from the git-go.

That's my late 2 cents.

so good Bill...keep it up. I love the cult leader angle...like an NCO who can cast a spell and make you feel comfortable going into satan's den with no crewserved, a book of wet matches, skittles, and a smoke grenade.

Thanks Jesse, yeah those are Stalin. I also drew L. Ron Hubbard (founder of the religion Scientology) and Joseph Smith (founded the Mormons), and Jesus. I was drawing cult leaders. ;) Those are all on the right page, and then I went through and drew my cartoons on the left.

Tried to be dirty, gritty, and fast. And you can't see it in the photos but the paint is thickish, it is acrylic paint mixed with acrylic ink. I recently learned that really gooping paint on makes the colors more intense. Thick paint = saturated colors.

Next time there will be some spray painting.

I wonder about dipping notebooks in thick paint, and then slicing them open with a razor and drawing on the inside like a surgery.

Cult leaders are usually inspiration guys.

Ok, end of transmission
